VIEWPOINT 2020: Josef Jost, Managing Director, Balver Zinn Josef Jost GmbH & Co. KG
We do not see any direct impact from the China tariff dispute, but again we are awaiting a finalised statement from the USA, however political uncertainty here is also shelving any investment plans. Balver Zinn/Cobar will continue to introduce new materials with the focus being on environmentally friendly products and to help the electronics industry as a whole reduce the carbon footprint they are leaving around the globe. A major drive within industry which has started in parts has to gear up to meet upcoming legislation before 2050. We continue to innovate in the metals joining area and even though the SN100C brand name has evaporated outside of Europe, we continue to promote new alloys such as SN100CV to help the industry reduce costs. As a materials supplier we feel a responsibility to have a social responsibility to meet these goals and we are joining the ranks of others who also have this focus. We are now starting to see consolidation ramping up in the consumable industry sector as large conglomerates buy out many leading suppliers. Balver Zinn/Cobar are still independent which will give us a bigger opportunity to differentiate our products with even more emphasis on customer support.
