May 17, 2012 Alpha LED Technologies to Present at the Carolinas Expo & Tech Forum 2012 South Plainfield, NJ -- Alpha(R), the world leader in the production of electronic soldering materials, will present a technical paper at the 2012 Carolinas Expo & Tech Forum held at the University of North Carolina – Charlotte. Scott Lewin, Director of OEM Sales, will present a paper on "Low Voiding Reliable Solder Interconnects for LED Packages on Metal Core PCBs". "Alpha's specialty materials technologies are based on our strong commitment to R&D and a clear understanding of the need to provide value for our customers in each key step in the LED manufacturing process." said Ravi Bhatkal, Alpha's VP – Energy Technologies. "Our well-known soldering materials expertise provides us with a deep insight into the challenging variety of bonding events required to assemble LEDs. Voiding is a key issue in LED assembly and this paper provides practical guidelines on how to improve voiding performance." SSL assemblies need to meet high reliability requirements such as Energy Star Category A with B50, L70 of 35,000 hours for outdoor lighting. Solder joints with low void content are an important element of long term performance and reliability. A study was undertaken to select appropriate materials and develop a low voiding assembly process. Results of the study and recommendations for low voiding will be presented at the upcoming Carolinas Expo & Tech Form.
