SMTA Capital Chapter Supports Local and National Organizations

The SMTA Capital Chapter is pleased to announce that through the dedication and hard work of its members, it has been able to give back to the community by making several donations to support various local and national not-for-profit organizations.

Donations went to the Wounded Warrior Project (WWP), CALCE at the University of Maryland and the Hutchins Grant. WWP provides programs and services to severely injured service members during the time between active duty and transition to civilian life. CALCE, the Center for Advanced Life Cycle Engineering, is the largest electronic products and systems research center focused on electronics reliability and the Charles Hutchins Educational Grant, which is co-sponsored by the SMTA and Circuits Assembly magazine, was established in memory of the past SMTA president, educator, mentor, and industry colleague, Dr. Charles Hutchins. The grant is presented to a full time graduate-level student pursuing a degree and working on thesis research in electronic assembly, electronics packaging, or a related field.

"As the president of the SMTA Capital Chapter, I am extremely pleased that through the continued support of our members, we were able to operate successfully in 2011 and set aside funds to support such important causes," says Fernando Rueda. "We look forward to an even more successful 2012."
