Whether it is a hardware, software, wiring or circuit problems, it is interesting to note that the Toyota recall seems destined to be blamed on the electronics.
From there the industry will surely look and point fingers at another list of culprits and from there more. At some point all of us have to begin to think long and hard about what something is going to cost.
We know that to manufacture a good product we need to focus on all aspects of the manufacturing process from the design of individual parts to the test and performance of the final product and everything in between. We have created a manufacturing model that while economical and based on the principles of quality and affordability has begun to break down.
If Toyota has a problem, we all do. We may have arrived at the point where the best product for the least amount of money cannot be achieved. A metal plate, a few lines of code, a more effective paste, another 10 seconds on a test bed.
Whatever the final culprit is, I am sure if you asked the consumer to pay another $100.00 to insure safe function of the product they were buying, they would pay it without hesitation.
