National Electronics Week to host Bloodhound SSC

a supersonic contender for the land speed record!

Following a successful debut last year, National Electronics Week (NEW) is returning to London’s Earls Court 2 over June 16th – 18th 2009. As the UK’s only platform for the entire electronics community, the exhibition is a vital part of the national industry’s resurgence on the world stage. Featuring a whole host of new and proven features, NEW will also include an exciting showcase of Richard Noble’s Bloodhound SSC – a supersonic contender for the land speed record!

The show’s commitment to learning and discovery fuelled its success in 2008; a focus that the NEW team are looking to extend even further in 2009 with this compelling showcase of the British technology driving the latest bid for the land speed record. Bloodhound SSC (Supersonic Car) was the brainchild of Science Minister Lord Drayson who believes it will inspire today’s younger generation to learn more about technology. The project is being led by Richard Noble who previously broke the land speed record in the Thrust 2 jet car in 1983. Richard was also the driving force behind the Thrust SSC Project which broke the land speed record and sound barrier in 1997 while being driven by RAF pilot Andy Green. Andy will be looking to repeat this success in the near future at the helm of the new Bloodhound SSC.

Looking set to provide one of NEW 2009’s most popular attractions, the Bloodhound team is bringing a model of the car to the show, along with one of its EJ200 jet engines and exciting video footage of the supersonic car in action. In another highlight not to be missed, Richard Noble will deliver an exclusive presentation on the project and the innovation behind its electronics systems.

Aimed at reinvigorating a key British industry that remains unrivalled in terms of future technology design and development, NEW is focused on inspiring innovation through education. Supported by the industry’s leading players and trade associations, the show incorporates dedicated areas for an even wider range of market sectors including Embedded, Components, Solar & Green Design, Wireless, EMS, Test & Measurement, Design & Development and Production & Assembly. A valuable opportunity for visitors to evaluate new and proven technologies from a wide variety of pioneering suppliers.

“Now more than ever, it’s vital that the UK electronics sector can rely on dedicated and comprehensive support,” explains NEW Event Director, Claire Jeffreys. “Having worked in the industry for many years, our team knows that education is vital to inspiring further advances that allow us to shine on the world stage. That’s why, in addition to abundant business and networking opportunities, NEW is delighted to welcome Richard Noble and his team to the event - celebrating a project that embodies the true pioneering spirit of the UK’s vibrant industry. We’ll also be hosting a wide range of technical seminars and workshops from the likes of Premier EDA and leading trade associations, plus the brand new Electronics Weekly Live exhibition and conference for semiconductor suppliers, distributors and test firms. The first show of its nature to wholeheartedly embrace such a broad industry spectrum – there really is so much to discover at NEW!”
