FCI Expands D-Sub Cable Connector Series with Space Saving Versions

ETTERS, P.A. - FCI, a leading supplier of connectors and interconnect systems, expanded its range of economical D-sub shielded hoods to include an angle exit versions for 50-way cable connectors. The angle exit version is ideal for indoor signal and power applications requiring robustness and/or high EMI/RFI performance in industrial and telecommunications markets.

"Meeting the demands of compact environments requires high density components. This new hood meets our customer's needs by providing hood sizes capable of handling up to 50 ways in standard density or 78 ways in high density D-subs, making the angle exit the ideal solution for saving space," said Luc Maillet, global product manager at FCI Electronics.

The economical D-sub angle exit series has several advantages in terms of weight and applied cost. The simplified hood design resulted in a lighter connector and allows for reduced assembly time, which can yield up to 20 percent reduced total applied cost. At the same time customer applications still receive the high level of performance needed.

The metal strain relief works with cable diameters from 8.0mm to 17mm and with just two screws to fasten, assembly is fast, easy and reduces labor costs.

The D-sub angle exit shielded hood series was previously available in 9-, 15-, 25- and 37-position versions compatible with 4 to 13 mm cable diameters, but is now available in 50 positions. The hoods can withstand an operating temperature from -40°C to +120°C and offer a high EMI/RFI performance (>40db from 30MHz to 1GHz).

FCI's full line of D-sub hoods includes plastic, metallic coated plastic, metal straight and right-angle versions.
