Manassas, Va. – The latest edition of ZESTRON America’s ZESTRON News takes a closer look at why a high-end electronic military manufacturer successfully evaluated ZESTRON DS 100 for a water-free cleaning applications. This issue also presents how EADS was able to meet the requirements for surface cleanliness prior to coating application.

The inadequate drying and cleaning capabilities as well as the insufficient polarity of existing cleaning agents have prompted the development of ZESTRON DS 100 for water-free defluxing applications. The cleaning agent includes a particularly high ability to dissolve a large variety of residues, very low surface tension values, flash point above 100°F, as well as residue-free drying. Advanced performances combined with environmental advantages make this process the most viable solvent-based option for cleaning microelectronics, especially for high-end electronic military and medical manufacturers.

Conformal coatings in particular require a residue-free surface, which can only be achieved with appropriate cleaning process. To meet the highest cleanliness requirements, EADS has investigated the efficiency of a new PCB defluxing process. Extensive evaluations completed in one of ZESTRON’s technical center, featured with the largest selection of cleaning processes, revealed ionic contamination far below the threshold of 10.06µg/sq.in. The new installed cleaning process was also found to meet the cleanliness requirements for components such as BGA with 0.2mm spacing.
