* New Through-Hole machine
Production automation system specialist, Contax Ltd, has just received orders for two Universal System machines from TridonicAtco UK Ltd, UK subsidiary of the Austrian lighting solution giant.
The Universal Radial 8XT has just been delivered, and a further VCD/Sequencer 8 Axial system is due for delivery in the next few weeks. Both of these will be installed on a new production line at TridonicAtco’s UK facility. This brings the total number of Universal machines at the site to six, four of which are radial systems and the remaining two, axial machines.
Universal is the company standard for both axial and radial equipment throughout TridonicAtco, with around 20 more systems in use worldwide.
Explained Peter Thorne, Engineering Manager at TridonicAtco UK Ltd, “We use a mixed technology product that requires both surface mount and through-hole. This is because in the lighting industry, power cannot be miniaturised. In fact, around 20 – 30 percent of our components need through-hole”.
He continued, “We are currently looking to expand to support the new growth in our products. We therefore need further capacity, so have invested in a new line and new equipment from Universal”.
“Naturally, we are always looking for ways to increase efficiency and automate, so we need the best through-hole technology. In our opinion, Universal is undoubtedly the best. We have been using their machines for over 20 years, and they have become our company standard.
“Contax has now been appointed the distributor for Universal in the UK. The Company has a good reputation in the industry, and we are now purchasing all our Universal equipment from them,” he said.
Mike Rapson, Managing Director at Contax Ltd added, “This new order from TridonicAtco proves conclusively that manufacturers are still investing in through-hole technology. Despite the rapid advances in surface mount, the requirement for conventional through-hole and mixed technology PCB assembly is still strong. At Contax, we are now able to offer a full range of solutions to meet any production automation requirement”.
