Molex CLIK-Mate SMT Connectors Offer Secure Mating Retention
for Use in Flat Panel Displays, Gaming and On-Board Automotive Applications

LISLE, Ill. – Molex Incorporated (NASDAQ: MOLX and MOLXA) introduces a new series of 2.00mm (.079”) pitch SMT wire-to-board connectors designed for applications that require secure electrical contact. The CLIK-Mate connector features a positive locking mechanism that provides an audible click, so operators know when it is fully mated. Rated at 3.0 Amps, the connectors can be used for both signal and power connections in a variety of end-user products, including flat panel displays, gaming devices and on-board automotive systems.

The single-row CLIK-Mate 2.00mm connector includes dual positive inner-locks from 8 to 14 circuits and a wide single lock on 4 and 6 circuit versions. Its inner-lock design prevents wires from becoming tangled in the latch, which sometimes occurs with outer-lock types, causing latch damage or breakage.

“Molex developed an inner-lock style connector to help prevent operator errors that can lead to incomplete contact and system malfunctions,” said Goji Tanabe, product manager, Molex Incorporated. “The CLIK-Mate connector’s locks are placed toward the end of the housing to prevent the connector from being dislodged. The inner-lock style also offers low insertion and high mating retention forces.”

To prevent incorrect insertion, the CLIK-Mate connector includes a unique U-shaped terminal that can only fit in the housing one way. The system features a dual-contact tuning fork-style terminal that provides secure electrical contact and avoids terminal stubbing and damage that can occur with pin header designs. Terminals are tin-plated and used with 22 to 26 AWG wires.

The connector’s housing incorporates a user-friendly thumb latch that provides easy insertion/extraction and contributes to the “click” feel. Anti-overstress stoppers protect the latch during mating and shipping. Headers are available in vertical and right angle designs and include windows for visual confirmation of mating. Flat areas on the headers can accommodate pick-and-place equipment, which avoids the cost and steps of removing placement caps or tape.

The 2.00mm CLIK-Mate connector is the first release in a family that will include other pitch sizes. For more information about CLIK-Mate 2.00mm connectors, visit http://www.molex.com/link/clik-mate20.html.
