New Workshop to Help Assess Quality of PCBs

A new practical and theoretical workshop, allowing engineers and PCB buyers to learn how to assess and maintain incoming printed circuit boards quality will be held on Thursday, 3rd July 2008. This will take place at the laboratories of ITRI Innovation in St Albans, Hertfordshire. The one-day session will be jointly run by Bob Willis of EPS and the Soldertec Global Laboratory Manager, Dr. Wayne Lam.

By sourcing PCBs from overseas or through distributors it can sometimes be difficult to assess the quality of incoming laminates. The switch to using lead-free assembly processes has highlighted issues of inadequate quality design and poorly fabricated circuits. Thus, the need to understand available test methods is increasingly more important. By holding this event at the Soldertec Global Laboratory, delegates can witness the various techniques available for the verification of acceptable quality. Delegates can also use a range of specialised techniques which are not always available in their own facilities.

“Over the past couple of years, we have witnessed a growth in PCB laminate issues and consequently, we have decided to hold this workshop in response to this. We believe that this session will offer those designing and specifying circuit boards a chance to assess and measure the quality of incoming products in a cost effective manner,” comments Tom Perrett, Marketing Manager at Soldertec Global. “Working in conjunction with Bob Willis we can offer PCB inspection, testing, on-site process audits, and now training workshops.”

The session would be beneficial for PCB designers, process and quality engineers responsible for specifying and inspecting printed boards. The cost of the workshop is £175 + VAT and includes refreshments, workshop notes and a set of colour wall charts, featuring the most common PCB defects and will take place from 9.30am to 4.30pm.

Further details of the workshop can be found on the Soldertec Global website: http://www.soldertec.com/ or by emailing Tom Perrett at: tom.perrett@itri.co.uk
