BI Technologies Develops Metal Powder Core Inductor

BI Technologies Develops Metal Powder Core Inductor for High Frequency, High Temperature Applications

DALLAS, TX — Providing design engineers with a high current, shielded device suitable for high temperature applications, TT electronics BI Technologies Magnetic Components Division has developed a surface mount high frequency inductor with an advanced metal powder core material. Designated the HM88 Series, the inductor features better efficiency in limited printed circuit board space than comparable devices.

According to David Smolik, director of product development for BI Technologies Magnetic Components Division, the construction of the inductor allows it to operate at higher frequencies and provides enhanced performance. “The HM88 inductor is constructed with a powder alloy core material, enabling it to operate at higher frequencies with lower core losses and high saturation levels,” said Smolik. “The shielded construction and small footprint also make it suitable for space-confined areas, including PC boards in Point-of-Load applications.”

The HM88 Series inductor is also ideal for high temperature environments, including automotive underhood and telecom applications.

The shielded inductor is rated for operation at frequencies of 300KHz and higher, and has an operating temperature to +180°C. BI Technologies will also produce devices outside these specifications to meet customer requirements.

Typical pricing for the HM88 Series high frequency inductor is approximately $0.75. Lead times are from 8 to 11 weeks.
